Sustainability

Sustainable development means different things to different people, but the most frequently quoted definition is from the Brundtland Report (Our Common Future):
"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Sustainability is the possibility of flourishing forever. It is not just another social goal but rather one that captures the aspirations of everyone linked. It is a fuzzy notion that cannot be reduced to numbers. It needs intention and commitment.

Sustainable organizations generate shareholder, social and environmental value - the new "triple bottom line." Sustainable work has the same tripartite focus at an individual or work team level. Our vision is sustainable careers, organizations, and communities, and integration of work strategies for transforming leader behaviors and corporate cultures toward sustainability.

We work with leaders who care to make a difference and who are ready to move from a linear, hierarchical, short-term model of behavior in organizations to one of abundance, inclusiveness, diversity, and connectedness.

We encourage leaders to build consciousness about (adapted from Dr. John Ehrenfeld, Executive Director for International Society for Industrial Ecology)
1. Their sense of place in the natural world
2. Their sense of selves as human beings
3. Their sense of responsibility for actions

Sustainable behavioral change in organizations is founded on notions that are known to already work in the natural world: building awareness, achieving better connectedness, and taking wise action.
